About Us
First Presbyterian Church & Academy offers quality education for children ages 2-5 and prepares children to be successful learners for all their educational careers, but also seeks to nurture the whole child by tapping into their creative and imaginative energies, providing loving care and concern for the child and the family, and offering support and encouragement as we create a community of people committed to these lofty goals.
The Academy will use a variety of learning styles to meet the multiple intelligences of our learners. We will use the state guidelines for school readiness as our starting point, rather than simply our goal. Children will master those things called for by public education, as is appropriate for the age group, but they will also experience the use of sometimes forgotten elements that help children create the synapses that cross into both sides of the brain. Using computer resources, music and other fine arts, children will be trained to learn.
At FPC it is our hope and our intent that when the children leave the academy, they will be children of joy and love equipped to do and learn and experience, but who will also have a little bit of sorrow at leaving the warmth of the community that has nurtured them so
Additional Information
The Academy is also an integrated part of the ministry of First Presbyterian Church, with all the resources the church community can provide. The pastor of the church will serve as the chaplain of the school for the children and their families, as well as offering chapel services once a week. The pastor, Rev. Paula Hoffman, also holds a master’s degree in Christian education and has worked with preschool education in 3 other congregations before coming to First Presbyterian to be their pastor.
