Warner Robins Pastor Says "No" to Sunday Sales

Georgia voters could soon decide whether they want to buy alcohol on Sundays.  The proposal is headed to the Senate floor, after it breezed through a committee Wednesday.

But still not everyone's in favor.

Warner Robins' Pastor Max Patterson calls the move an insult to the Lord's day and the city's integrity.

"Here is where that conviction of standards, of morals, of behavior and the things that are traditional to be kept in place comes into play," said Patterson.

Patterson is currently the interim pastor for First Baptist Church on Watson Boulevard.  Patterson says Sunday is God's day and must be respected.

With the city's best interest in mind, he says he plans to fight the effort and encourage people to vote "No."

The bill's supporters say the issue is not a moral one but a question of economic fairness, competition and common sense.

Flint Energies Announces April 1 Rate Change for Some Members, Not Residential

While Flint Energies’ residential rate will remain steady at the current 9.5 cents per kilowatt-hour, the Board of Directors have taken action to make changes in several rate schedules, effective Apr. 1, 2011.

About 7100 members billed under the Small General Service rate (FSGS-20) which covers businesses under 20 kilowatts (kW) of demand will see a slight increase in their costs as the base charge moves from $20 to $22 per month, a Flint Energies news release says. Their energy charge will remain the same.

Autopsy: Centerville Woman Died from Gunshot

An autopsy completed at Macon's GBI Crime Lab shows 38-year-old Kimberly McKenzie died from a gunshot wound to her right upper leg.

That's according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

McKenzie, of Centerville, was found dead in South Bibb County Sunday afternoon, after going missing Wednesday night.

Two suspects have been charged with her murder.

During a commitment hearing Monday, 19-year-old Alexandria Scott admitted to shooting and killing McKenzie.

21-year-old Justin Grable, also charged with felony murder, chose to waive his commitment hearing.

The two are being held in the Bibb County Jail. Their date to appear in Superior Court has not yet been set.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office, Centerville Police, and Warner Robins Police are still investigating the case.

Robins Phases In Fingerprint Security

Robins Air Force Base security officials say the old method of physically matching ID cards to base employees when they come through the gate should be largely dead in a few months.

Lt. Col. Thomas Morea, commander of the 78th Security Forces Squadron says the new way to go is the Defense Biometric Identification System, which lets a computer database do all the work.

In the new method, security officers scan a bar code on the employee's ID with a hand-scanner.

The device will show the employee's picture and say if he or she is allowed on base.

If any question arises about a person's identity, an officer can verify their fingerprints with a different scanner.

Morea says fingerprint data is the biometric information used on most air force installations and is virtually 100 percent accurate for identification verification.

"If it's not your fingerprint, it's not you," Morea says.
