HCHS Presents: 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'

The Houston County High School Musical Theatre will perform the one-act play Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

The final performance is Sunday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. at Houston County High School, a Houston County Board of Education news release says.

This production tells the Biblical story of Joseph, a handsome young man who is his father's favorite child.  He is able to interpret dreams and is the bearer of an amazing coat.

These facts lead Joseph's 11 brothers to become jealous and to sell Joseph into slavery to some passing Ishmaelites.  After refusing the advances of his owner's wife, Joseph is sent to jail.  Once in jail, he quickly becomes popular due to his ability to interpret dreams.

The Pharaoh soon hears of Joseph's ability and appoints him to an important post in Egypt.

Georgia Child Identification Program

The Georgia Masons and Centerville Police Department are hosting a free Child Identification Program this Saturday, Feb. 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Centerville City Hall.

From the event, parents take home a CD that contains:

  • several full-color digital photos of the child
  • complete set of digital fingerprints
  • information about the child such as distinguishing features.

This information can be used in the case of an abduction in the Amber Alert program.

The entire process takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

There is no age limit for participants and anyone may benefit, regardless of address.

In addition, a magic show will be provided and a fire truck and police care will be on display.

Centerville City Hall is located at 300 E. Church Street in Centerville.

Sharon Howard Resumes House Campaign

House District 136 candidate Sharon Howard says plans to continue campaigning after suspending her campaign due to a health problem last week.

"I plan to return to work in a couple weeks," said Howard.

She says doctors recommended some rest before returning to work as a surgical technician in a couple weeks.  Howard says she's not under any treatment.

Howard says she initially suspended the campaign because she was waiting for a full prognosis from doctors.

"At that time, it was the wise thing to do," she said.

Howard says she initially went to the emergency room on Jan. 24.

"I thought it was the flu... had a terrible headache, some blurred vision," she said.

After a CT scan, doctors found a small vein had hemorrhaged, outside of her brain in the frontal lobe, Howard said.

"The probability of this occurring again is 2 percent... This is non-life threatening," she added.

Warner Robins Pastor Says "No" to Sunday Sales

Georgia voters could soon decide whether they want to buy alcohol on Sundays.  The proposal is headed to the Senate floor, after it breezed through a committee Wednesday.

But still not everyone's in favor.

Warner Robins' Pastor Max Patterson calls the move an insult to the Lord's day and the city's integrity.

"Here is where that conviction of standards, of morals, of behavior and the things that are traditional to be kept in place comes into play," said Patterson.

Patterson is currently the interim pastor for First Baptist Church on Watson Boulevard.  Patterson says Sunday is God's day and must be respected.

With the city's best interest in mind, he says he plans to fight the effort and encourage people to vote "No."

The bill's supporters say the issue is not a moral one but a question of economic fairness, competition and common sense.
