The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a Speed Networking event, sponsored by Cumulus Broadcasting, on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.

Speed Networking is a structured effective and powerful event that’s fun and friendly and will provide new and established Chamber members the opportunity to meet industry related peers, business contacts & referrals in a pleasant environment.

The Speed Networking event includes a continental breakfast, followed by structured and timed meetings designed to afford participants maximum exposure in a short amount of time. Participants are encouraged to bring a stack of business cards and other paraphernalia to share and exchange with others.

The cost is $15.00 for Chamber members and non-members are welcome for $25.00.  Registration deadline is Friday, February 18, 2011.  There will be NO CANCELLATIONS after 5 p.m. on Friday, February 18. 

A stretch of Watson Boulevard in front of the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins is closed to traffic this afternoon due to a gas leak.

The break happened at Watson Boulevard and Hospital Drive.

Warner Robins Public Information officer Tabitha Pugh says traffic on Watson Boulevard is closed between Briarcliff Road and  Pleasant Hill Road.

Pugh says that drivers who must get to the Houston Medical Center will need to drive to the back entrance on Sunset Drive.

Pugh says a work crew caused the gas main break doing roadwork in front of the Houston Medical Center around 1 p.m.

She said some neighboring businesses, like the CVS, were evacuated due to the threat of a gas explosion.

Traffic is being detoured through the nearby neighborhoods.

She said the detours will last the rest of the afternoon.

The Warner Robins Fire Department has also helped control traffic.

Houston County Middle School students won Museum of Aviation Mission Quest Flight Simulation Center Summer Camp certificates at the 2011 Houston County Science Fair held at the Museum February 1 through February 4.  

The Museum awarded $125 certificates to Daniel Underwood, left, from Northside Middle School, and Jacob Elliot from Bonaire Middle for showing “great potential in science and engineering,” a Museum of Aviation news release says.

Both students won First Place ribbons at the Fair.  Underwood’s project was Lift It - Which Structure Can Support the Most Weight?

Elliot’s project was Hang Time - Which Angle of an Airplane Wing Will Carry the Plane the Farthest Through the Air?
