My Teacher is Tops

Students at Feagin Mill Middle School in Warner Robins say band teacher Lloyd McDonald is dedicated to music. McDonald has been teaching band for thirteen years. Tuesday, he won 13 WMAZ's 'My Teacher is Tops' Award.

McDonald says he works hard to help students improve.

"It's just so much fun to see a kid start from scratch, can't play a note, to the end of the year, they're just playing fantastic," McDonald said.

Siblings Brandon Fortson, eighth grade, and Stephanie Fortson, sixth grade, of Warner Robins, nominated McDonald for the award.

"I've enjoyed learning how to play different instruments, learning how to become a musician, and basically learning all I can about music," Brandon Fortson said.

"It helps like understand stuff better by learning music and learning different notes," Stephanie Fortson said.

Brandon Fortson says McDonald teaches notes that matter beyond band class.

Community Pays Tribute to Sullivent Sisters

Community Pays Tribute to Sullivent Sisters

The Warner Robins community came together Monday night to pay tribute to two sisters.

Hundreds of people poured into Second Baptist Church in Warner Robins, forming a line that stretched from the inner sanctuary to the door of the church.

Seventeen-year old Leslie Sullivent and 11-year old Bridget Sullivent died after a car accident Wednesday night.

Bridget died at scene of the accident near Highway 96 and Bonanza Drive in Warner Robins. Leslie passed away at the Medical Center the next day.

Like many of the young people at the visitation hours, Avery Fouse and Presley Dagley say they knew the girls through softball.

Chamber Honors Judith McCune as Outstanding Employee

The Robins Regional Chamber’s Small Business of the Month Committee presented Judith McCune, Dance Instructor for Academy of Dance, with the Outstanding Employee Award for the month of February 2011.

Judith McCune, affectionately known as Miss Judy, was once the owner and director at the Academy of Dance.  She has mentored many young Warner Robins women throughout her nearly 30 year tenure at the Academy.

“She was not just a teacher,” says current Director, Kim Rowley.  “But she is a mother and now grandmother figure who goes beyond her position of teacher and still supports the Academy with fundraisers, seamstress duties, office work, as backstage manager during shows and as prop maker; refusing to take payment for many of the things she loves to do.”

Police Warn of Traffic Delays Due to Funeral

Warner Robins police are warning people of possible traffic delays due to today's funeral for Leslie and Bridget Sullivent.

The funeral escort will leave Second Baptist Church on Moody Road after the 4 p.m. service. The service is expected to end sometime around 4:45 to 5 p.m.

Police say the escort will travel west on Russell Parkway to Carl Vinson Parkway. It will then proceed on Carl Vinson Parkway, across Watson Boulevard to Parkway Memorial.

A police news release says drivers may hit slight traffic delays due to the funeral procession. Drivers should use caution and avoid the area if possible.
