Carpool Technology Cuts Wait When School Lets Out

It's an all-too-familiar fear of parents: the chaos of the carpool line.

Hundreds of children hurry each day to escape to their cars or buses, but now at nearly 30 Bibb and Houston County elementary schools, there's order to the chaos.

They're using a new technology designed by a Macon dad.

Gregor Jennings says he can't take all the credit for SchoolCarpool.com. He said, "Actually, my wife came up with the idea. She was PTA president, and it was pure pandemonium for an hour a day."

He said she experienced children darting to the carpool line, racing for the buses and intercoms blaring messages.

Jenning said he thought to himself, "There's got to be something better. We can do something better."

He thought up a web-based program. The system all but eliminates intercom messages and maintains the quiet of the classroom environment.

Houston Elected Officials Talk Growth, Future

Houston County's growth and future were among the top issues as people questioned a panel of local elected officials Thursday morning.

It was part of a new format at the Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce's Eggs and Issues meeting, a quarterly forum designed to keep people informed on county progress and challenges.

Getting answers was the order of the day, as the style was switched up to include a nine-person panel of county officials, including the board of commissioners and Sheriff Cullen Talton.

Congressman Austin Scott, who recently opened his District Eight headquarters in Warner Robins, made a surprise drop-in.

County Chairman Tommy Stalnaker says he suggested changing the meeting's style to include more audience participation.

"I don't want to do the dog-and-pony show as we've done in the past," Stalnaker says.
