Kids and Pros Football Camp Comes to Houston Co.

Kids & Pros Co-Founder Buddy Curry has announced the Kids and Pros football camp is coming to Houston County again in 2011.

The camp is scheduled to take place at Tanner Park on Carl Vinson Parkway Monday-Thursday, June 6-9, each day from 6-9 p.m.

“More than 120 young football players from the ages of 7-13 joined us for the inaugural Kids and Pros football camp last summer,” Curry says. “Building on that success, we are coming back to Warner Robins.”

During the camp, Curry, a former Atlanta Falcon, and other former NFL players will be joined by many more local coaches to give the camp a 1-to-10 coach-to-player ratio.

Coaches will provide hands-on teaching of fundamental skills; as well as reinforcing character values that can be learned from the game of football.

Curry refers to the character speeches each night as “life lessons.”

Senate Passes Water Supply Act

Today the Senate overwhelmingly passed Sen. Ross Tolleson’s (R-Perry) bill to allow local governments to utilize public/private partnerships to finance water infrastructure projects.

That is according to a Senate Press Office news release.

The Georgia Public/Private Water Supply Act of 2011 (Senate Bill 122) will allow state and local governments to voluntarily partner with private investors on the construction of reservoirs and other water infrastructure projects.

“This bill is entirely about local control. It simply gives local governments another tool to finance an infrastructure project to meet that community’s water needs,” said Tolleson. “The Water Supply Act compliments the conservation bill we passed last year, and puts Georgia on the path to ensuring we can maintain the water resources needed to keep up with a rapidly growing state.”

Base Mass Transportation System to Change

Despite traffic problems, parking shortages, and sky-rocketing gas prices, Robins Air Force Base says it wasn't getting enough riders on its on-base bus system.

That's why the Round Robins Express, which shuttles employees around the base for free, will make its last run Thursday.

Base officials say it wasn't getting the ridership it wanted.

"Taking everything into consideration -- mission requirements, effective use of our personnel -- we took it as a decision -- a business decision," says John Pugh, who helped head up the green initiative.

Pugh says the high-occupancy-vehicle entrance has already moved from Gate 12 to Gate 15 (the Air National Guard Gate) in order to free up personnel.

Three months ago, the base launched Round Robins alongside the "BIRD" shuttle, the Macon Transit Authority-operated route from Macon to Robins Air Force Base.
