"Yellow Ribbon" Event Explains Military Benefits

Capt. Mia Jacobs says life's been stressful the last two weeks since her husband Charles deployed to support the operation Odyssey Dawn in Libya.

"I'm so used to having him there helping me," Jacobs says.

The mother of two has been in the military for 26 years, but for the first time is eligible for benefits that come with having a spouse who is deployed.

"It's overwhelming. There's too much stuff out there actually," says Jacobs.

She plans to attend Saturday's Yellow Ribbon Expo -- an event she says comes just in the nick of time.

Military officials say the event will be a "one-stop shop," where 26 organizations catering to military families will answer questions.

"The focus is those who have deployed, are deployed currently, and those who are going to deploy," says Col. Bill Welsh, with the 116th ACW.

New Regional Education Foundation Elects Its First Officers

The Robins Regional Educational Foundation has elected its first officers. The Foundation is a brand new not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization formed to help promote and advance education at all levels throughout the Robins Region. Its establishment was a major goal of the Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, which was chaired last year by Dee Dee Côté and is being led this year by Justin Ritchie. While the Foundation is a separate corporate entity from the Chamber and will have its own leadership and autonomy, the two organizations are expected to cooperate on a number of projects designed to enhance and promote education in the Robins Region.

Team Assessing Damage at Robins Air Force Base

The Tuesday morning storms took their toll on the state's largest employer, Robins Air Force Base.

Winds damaged a hangar and toppled trees on or near several buildings.

Crews came out early Tuesday morning, removing limbs and several tree's near the main gate and around base housing.

Captain Pam Stauffer with the 78th Air Base Base Wing said one building took extensive damage. Others sustained what a Damage Assessment Team called 'moderate' damage.

She says power supply failure and flooding caused some damage, but most of it was to the landscape.

A tree fell on the air conditioning unit of Building 309, and one crashed onto the roof of Building 158.

Stauffer said Robins activated their Damage Assessment Team (DAT) Tuesday morning. She says they will complete their work, when the winds die down.
