Students Hold Fundraiser For Earthquake Victims

Some Central Georgia students rolled up their sleeves for a cause Saturday.

About 20 Northside High School ROTC cadets washed cars to help raise money for Japan earthquake victims. They held the fundraiser at the Advanced Auto Parts in Warner Robins. The students raked in more than $400.

While some people came out to get their cars washed, others just stopped by to give a donation.  Student Mandi Crowder says it's important to support communities in need around the world.

"It may be one person or a family... the whole community, I'm just happy we were able to be here to help them and I know if something happened to us they'll be here to help us," says Crowder.

"If you need help, that's what these cadets do, they're willing to step up and do what they have to do to help out," says Tammy Crowder, who also helped organized the event.

Organizers say the money will go towards the Red Cross relief in Japan.

You have been prepping for this day and are still not prepared as you would like.  Rest assured, it is a day filled with adventure, stress, excitement, apprehension, sorrow, and a host of other emotions.  Luckily you only have 1,001 things to do, right?!

JROTC Hosting Car Wash for Japan Relief

It's the start of spring break for Houston County students.

While many of them will play, others plan to work while they are away from the classroom.

About 30 JROTC students from Northside High School volunteered to wash cars this Saturday.

Corp Commander Ethan Hendricks says JROTC is about helping others, and the group wants to support relief efforts in Japan.

Hendricks said, "Anything that happens of that nature, with the death and people missing there, that's horrible for any country."

They'll scrub your car for a donation, with all the money going to the Red Cross and their work in the earthquake- and tsunami-affected areas.

11th grade student Madeleine Thorpe said, "If you have one group of people trying to make a difference, that may encourage other people to try to do something."

The car wash is Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. It's at the Advanced Auto store at 2207 Watson Boulevard.
