Councilman Wants to Revisit Saggy Pants Law

A law against saggy pants in Warner Robins is a getting second look.

Section 13-2, labeled "prohibition of certain personal behavior", has been been on the books for more than two years, but has never been enforced.

A city councilman wants the law rewritten to make it easier to enforce. Others we talked with want it erased from the city code.

Council Member John Williams says he's not judging people by what they wear, but wants people in public places to show respect.

Williams said, "Maybe their t-shirt is too short, the pants are too low, actually seeing exposed skin, which is really indecent."

Antonio Hogue likes his look, wearing his pants far below his waistline.

To people who criticize his clothing, he says, "I understand you don't want to see my drawers. Don't look at me. Don't look. Keep going."

Logan Varnadoe Returns Home

Two-year-old Logan Varnadoe is back in Central Georgia after two weeks in a Cincinnati children's hospital.

Eyewitness News was there as Logan arrived at Middle Georgia Regional Airport Tuesday to a crowd of excited family members and friends.

Logan suffers from intestinal problems.

Friends and family stood by with excitement and special messages as Logan arrived safely.

Thanks to community support, Logan and his parents, along with his sister, were able to make the trip.

April and Jason Varnadoe say they could not have made the trip without the generosity of strangers.

"There's no way or words I can put it in. It has just helped our family out tremendously. I just want to tell everybody thank you," said Logan's father, Jason Varnadoe.

In Cincinnati, Logan underwent tests to his digestive system.

He had a procedure only done in Cincinnati. That put a feeding tube directly into his intestine.

Some folks plan to skip the grits and eggs Friday morning, in exchange for tea and crumpets.

Coverage of the Royal Wedding starts at 4 a.m., and a post wedding feast starts in Centerville at 11 a.m.

Jeanette Francis at the British Pantry on North Houston Lake Road is hosting a "street party" in her tea room.

She will serve a traditional British menu, including sandwiches, vol au vents, sausage rolls and wedding cake.

The meal also includes a slice of McVities Rich Tea Chocolate cake, which is Prince William's favorite.

The cost for the meal is $12.50 per person.

Francis says in the past few days, the store has almost sold out of scones and British flags, with many people planning wedding watch parties a their home's Friday morning.

Unemployment Rates Decline Warner Robins

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the metro Warner Robins area decreased to 7.4 percent in March, down three-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 7.7 percent in February. The jobless rate in the metro Warner Robins area in March a year ago was 7.5 percent.

The rate decreased because there were 200 new jobs in Warner Robins in March, mostly in the service-related industries, and there were fewer layoffs in manufacturing and retail trade.

“The unemployment rate decreased in Warner Robins, as well as in all of the state’s other 24 local areas,” said Butler. “This is encouraging, and hopefully indicates that a modest recovery may be building throughout the state.”

The lowest rate, at 7.3 percent was in metro Athens, while the highest rate, at 11.7 percent, was in the Heart of Georgia – Altamaha region around Dublin.

New numbers from the Georgia Department of Labor show a bright spot in the unemployment rate here in Central Georgia.
