Child Left in Car Died of Heat Stroke

An autopsy found that a 3-year-old Warner Robins boy died of heat stroke Sunday after he was left in a hot car, police said Monday.

The victim was identified as Andrew Calloway of Warner Robins.

Police spokeswoman Tabitha Pugh said it happened outside a home at 100 Georgetown Boulevard, which is off of Smithville Church Road.

A news release says the child was found unconscious by Shelia Henderson, who had arrived at the home in the car with another adult and two other children.

When she couldn't find the child inside the house she went outside and found him in the car. She called 911 for help.

The boy was pronounced dead at Houston Medical Center.

No charges have been filed, but Pugh said the case is under criminal investigation.

Setting Your Child Up for Success This School Year

Setting Your Child Up for Success This School Year

As the summer break draws to a close, parents and children across Middle Georgia are going through the pre-school rituals of buying backpacks and school supplies and wondering what the new school year will bring.  The crazy routine of back-to-school can derail even the most organized, stable household.  Taking a little time now can help set your stellar student up for success this school year.

Create Routines

Does your child do his homework as soon as he gets home or does he zone out by watching TV and playing video games before doing his homework?  Find what works for your child and stick to it.  Morning routines are also important to be sure everyone gets out of the house on time and with a bare minimum of bedlam.  The night before lay out clothes, pack the lunch boxes and be sure the backpacks are packed up and ready to go including all completed homework assignments.

Warner Robins Church Gives Out School Supplies

Hundreds of kids filled their school backpacks a little early this year.

It's part of an event hosted by Westside Baptist Church in Warner Robins called "Back to School Community Cook-out."

They grilled up hot dogs and handed out notebook paper, pens and pencils to kids in the community.

Organizer Craig Layton says it's a way to reach out to people who need a little extra help as kids prepare to go back to school.

He said, "Some people, especially in this area, are having to decide whether to pay their rent or buy their kids supplies to go to school, and maybe we can just in some way offset some of that."

Layton says any left over supplies are donated to the Houston County Board of Education.
