Actor John Travolta donated his Gulfstream G-2 to the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame, a state agency based at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins.

Lance Toland, chairman of the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame, says Travolta hopes his donation will inspire children to study math, science and aerospace.

He says the aircraft was built in Savannah, and the actor flew the plane for over 20 years with several famous names along for the ride.

Houston Relay for Life Raises $305k

Friday night, 126 teams and more than 1,500 participants continued the fight to find a cure for cancer.

Relay for Life activities in Houston County filled a track at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter.

Festivities, including live entertainment, started well-ahead of the 6:30 opening ceremony.

The hope is that money raised will advance researchers steps closer to finding a way to fight the disease that affects so many.

Some walkers told us they're celebrating their own survival and courage, while others were walking either for loved ones lost, those still fighting, and those who conquered the disease.

This year's event raised more than $305,000 for the American Cancer Society's work.

Teams will keep it going throughout the night and finish Saturday morning.

HoCo Bears in Championship Game

It's the final countdown. The Houston County boys soccer team is looking for their biggest win of the season on the biggest stage, in the 5A state championship.

The undefeated Bears advanced to the finals after a shutout win over Stars Mill, 5-0. The black and silver are led by 8 seniors, a balanced attack on offense and a stingy defense.
Saturday, they'll take to the pitch one final time in search of the school's first soccer state title.

Driver in Critical Condition After Being Shot by Houston Deputy

The GBI's Perry office says a Houston County deputy shot a man who drove away from a traffic stop and then rammed two patrol cars with a vehicle.

The unidentified suspect is in critical condition at the the Medical Center of Central Georgia, according to Rodney Wall, GBI special agent in charge of the Perry office.

He says it happened around 3 p.m. on Moody Road.

Wall said the deputy tried to pull the car over in "a routine traffic stop."

The driver would not stop.

Three other Houston County deputies joined the pursuit before the driver finally stopped just south of Lake Placid Road.

When officers got out, Wall says the driver rammed the vehicle into two patrol cars.

According to the GBI, a deputy then fired multiple gunshots at the man, who was still inside the car.  Wall says, there is no indication the man was armed at this time.
